Why does my school want there to be huge gaps in between my classes? Every single quarter, there have always been a billion English classes offered at 10 to noon Monday and Wednesday, and now I can't even find one. Which is a shame, because I pretty much don't have a choice about getting to school around ten-ish, but the only M/W class I could find starts at noon. Also I need to take four classes in one quarter if I want to graduate in winter quarter, but I can't find another one that fits into my schedule and won't kill me by forcing me to spend either two hours sitting around or else six hours straight in class. Previously they were offering all sorts of awesome seminar classes and now I can't find any.
Right now my schedule is
Milton: Lecture Tues and Thurs 10:00-11:50 AM, waitlisted for discussion Thursday 1:00-1:50 PM (otherwise it'll be discussion 2:00-2:50)
James Joyce: Tues 12:00-2:50 PM
American Fiction 1900-1945: Mon and Wed 12:00-1:50
I'm hoping with more searching I can find a 4-unit class to stick in there somewhere, but it's not looking good, which means I'll be taking 4 classes in winter, instead. Hopefully it'll be easier to find 4 classes that aren't at the same time since I'll have taken most of the classes I need to graduate, so the rest will mostly be electives. Also due to my degree expected term changing, they need to review my financial aid materials again, which means they damn well better be giving me something. My dad's planning to take out another loan, but we already owe 10000 so the less we have to pay back, the better.
Edit: woot! I found a class to change! Instead of American Fiction I'm taking Gothic Novel and National Identify, M/W 10:00-11:50 AM. Which means I can either go home early, or else find another class from noon to 2. And in the Gothic Novel class we'll be reading Jane Eyre and Picture of Dorian Grey, both of which will be fun to re-read critically.
In better news, the manager from Rite-Aid called and said that he passed my survey on to some higher-up who approved hiring me, so hopefully I'll have a job! He left a message and when I called back he wasn't there, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow (well, later today, when the sun's actually up) to get started on whatever I need to do--paperwork, training, finding out which area I'm actually going to work in. Having a source of employment makes me feel far less nervous and worthless, though, even though I'm sure that in a month I'll be bitching about my job in here, too. And then bitching about my job and school! You can't wait, huh? I'd better start actually writing some fic because the real world steals my soul again.
